Iain A. Smith - welcome

web programming services

I am a Melbourne-based web developer, providing a basket of web-oriented coding skills primarily to graphic designers, who either don’t have the time or the inclination to build the functional aspects of a web site. I can, of course, build a site from scratch if you know how you want it to look. I specialise in 'LAMP', i.e. Linux server environments running the Apache web server software, MySQL database and the PHP parser. I have been working with Unix and Linux based systems since 2001. My database experience includes not only MySQL, but also Oracle, Sybase and SQL Server as well as data warehousing and 'business intelliegence'. I am a Zend Certified Engineer (both PHP4 and PHP5 certifications). My work also regularly includes JavaScript, CSS, AJAX and 'htaccess' (or MOD_REWRITE).

recent work

Unlike graphic designers, displaying a portfolio of work for programmers is a some what more difficult task. Few people, other than perhaps programmers, want to look at a page of code (as beautiful as it may look to some of us). In some instances one can point to a particular function of the site, but more often than not, the work of the programmer is best judged by what the user does not see. Therefore I have listed below some of the web sites that I have worked on to differing degrees. I claim no credit for how they look and have therefore intentionally left this as a simple list without incorporating hyperlinks.
