Iain A. Smith - welcome
in the press
Articles:
These days there are literally gazillions of articles and tutorials about all that web programming entails. Below are just a few that I still find useful from time to time.
php.net - the primary PHP reference site.
w3schools.com - full of useful explanations and examples on HTML tags and attributes
Reference

SitePoint Reference - relatively new on the block, the aim is to provide the ultimate reference for HTML, CSS and (at some point) JavaScript!
about the programmer
Iain developed an interest in the Web way back at the end of the last millenium (or start of the new one if you prefer), picking up a book on writing HTML, whilst visiting in San Francisco, February 2000. Since then the World Wide Web has moved on. The are plenty of buzz words now flying around, like Web 2.0, XHTML, Flash and AJAX, to list but a few. If you are a great designer, but don’t like getting your hands dirty in the coding side of your site, get in touch and perhaps I can sort it all out for you.
recent work
Unlike graphic designers, displaying a portfolio of work for programmers is a some what more difficult task. Few people, other than perhaps programmers, want to look at a page of code (as beautiful as it may look to some of us). In some instances one can point to a particular function of the site, but more often than not, the work of the programmer is best judged by what the user does not see. Therefore I have listed below some of the web sites that I have worked on to differing degrees. I claim no credit for how they look and have therefore intentionally left this as a simple list without incorporating hyperlinks.
